Benefits Of Strength Training
Whether you are a man, woman, potato, young or old and no matter what your goals are, strength training is going to benefit you in many ways. The benefits I am sharing are for EVERYONE!
Benefits of strength training:
You’ll burn more fat with strength training. Cardio is assumed to be the “killer” for fat loss, but that’s not necessarily the case. An increased metabolic rate after exercise is crucial for fat loss because it allows for Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) to occur. EPOC takes place because your body needs energy to repair your muscles after you’ve challenged them. Cardio does little to nothing to elevate your EPOC. Lifting heavy versus lifting moderate weight is much better for fat loss because it increases EPOC much more because it is a lot more stress on your body. With proper nutrition just doing cardio will make you lose fat as well as muscle, with the same eating habits, strength training 3-5 days a week you and 2 days of cardio will lose fat and build muscle.
Stronger. Everyone starts somewhere! When I first started working out that I felt I had the strength of an 8 year old child . I would struggle doing 5 push ups, chest flyes were almost out of the picture and I could barely use any dumbbell over 10lbs for the first few months. After months of training your body starts to adapt, you get stronger, and muscle fibers “transform” to adapt to your training.
Happier and better sleep. Strength training increases serotonin output in the brain. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter responsible for mood, sleep and appetite regulation. By regulating serotonin levels in the brain, the body reduces mood, sleep and appetite imbalances.
Improve posture. With a sedentary lifestyle that many of us live our posture is going to suffer, generally resulting in spinal abnormalities and pain. By strength training the muscles become stronger and tighter. Strength training alone will not be your fix all for posture, but it can help you alot!
You won’t be bulky. This is mainly aimed at women who are afraid to strength train due to the fear of getting bulky. Getting bulky is extremely difficult for women. It requires many years of consistent training and diet, and the desire to get that way. Many women who are bulky turn to steroid use due to how challenging it is to achieve their goal physique. If your goal is not to be bulky, but rather have a lean physique, strength training is something you should definitely do! Women do not have the testosterone levels to become “bulky” and put on the amount of muscle mass men can.
More confident. Anytime you invest time in improving yourself, you’re going to be more comfortable and confident with yourself. Strength training improves health, improves physique, and improves the mental state, which results in increased levels of confidence.
